Major contract awarded for Regional Rail Link

A Regional Rail Link construction contract has been awarded for track work between the City (Southern Cross Station) and the Maribyrnong River.

The alliance contract has been awarded to a consortium consisting of John Holland, Abigroup, Coleman Rail, AECOM & GHD.

A total of 2,900 direct jobs and 2,700 indirect jobs are expected as part of the Regional Rail Link project, making a total of 5,600.

Community Reference Group member appointed for Melton

Margaret Wood AM has been appointed as the Community Reference Group member for Melton.

She will join seven other community representatives whose role is to provide the community with information on the project as well as bring questions and concerns back to the project team.

Three contracts awarded for Regional Rail Link

Three major construction contracts have been awarded for the Regional Rail Link project.

The successful bidders are:

  • A consortium comprising Thiess, Balfour Beatty, Parsons Brinckerhoff and SKM for works from Footscray to Deer Park.
  • A joint venture comprising Baulderstone Leighton for works from Deer Park to West Werribee Junction.
  • A consortium comprising UGL/Manidis Roberts for project-wide train control and systems.

Sunshine railway station will undergo a substantial redevelopment as part of the Regional Rail Link project, bringing major improvements to the station and its surrounds.

West Footscray, Footscray and Tottenham stations

We will construct a new station at West Footscray and transform Footscray railway station into a modern transport interchange, with capacity to manage tens of thousands of regional and suburban passengers daily. We will also deliver improvements at Tottenham railway station.

Bidders shortlisted for Work Package B: Southern Cross Station to Footscray

The shortlisting of tenders for a major package of works for the Regional Rail Link has been finalised following an extensive evaluation process.

The shortlisted bidders for Work Package B: Southern Cross Station to Footscray are:

  • Integrate Rail (John Holland, Abigroup, Coleman Rail, AECOM & GHD); and
  • Leighton Contractors, Downer EDI, SMEC & Mott MacDonald.

Work Package A – Track and civil works joint venture partners announced

Activate, a John Holland and Coleman Rail joint venture, has been awarded the contract to deliver track, civil, structures and field signalling works between Southern Cross Station and Moonee Ponds Creek.

The contract is for the design and construction of the following works:

  • track, civil and overhead traction power infrastructure
  • trackside signalling equipment
  • a new bridge deck over Dudley Street, and
  • strengthening of and protection work on existing structures in the area.

A contract was also awarded to Alstom, to deliver a new computerised signalling system for the Melbourne stabling yard area, the Regional Rail Link tracks into Southern Cross Station and the new bypass tracks that will be built along the western side of the existing rail corridor.

Works will commence in the second half of 2011 with construction scheduled to be completed in 2013.
