West Werribee Junction
Major construction is complete at West Werribee Junction, and the site office was demobilised at the end of February 2014.
Scope of works
At West Werribee Junction, the Regional Rail Link tracks cross Bulban Road and freight tracks via a rail over road and rail flyover to join the existing Melbourne-Geelong regional passenger line.
When the project is complete, passengers on the Geelong line will travel via the growing suburbs of Wyndham Vale and Tarneit and have a streamlined journey through the inner west on dedicated tracks to Melbourne's CBD instead of sharing the metropolitan Werribee line.
Passengers travelling between Geelong and Werribee will be able to use the new Wyndham Vale station for connecting bus services.
What the team delivered
- Two major rail bridges that will carry Geelong trains over the existing rail corridor and Bulban Road on to the new railway line towards Wyndham Vale and Melbourne's CBD.
- A new, safer alignment of an 800m section of Bulban Road located below the new rail over road bridge.
- Laying two new broad gauge tracks that will carry Geelong trains onto the new railway line.
- Realignment of both existing Geelong line tracks to accommodate the new rail bridge.
The contract to carry out this section of Regional Rail Link was awarded to Leighton-Downer Joint Venture (Leighton Contractors and Downer EDI Works).
