Entrance to the new platforms at Southern Cross Station

On 22 December 2013, Geelong line services began using dedicated V/Line tracks between South Kensington and the new platforms 15 and 16 at Southern Cross Station.

The new track and platforms provide a more streamlined and reliable journey for Geelong passengers to and from the heart of the city.

Travel changes

To utilise the new infrastructure, Geelong line trains arriving or departing from platform 15 and 16 no longer stop at North Melbourne railway station.

Geelong line passengers need to transfer to metropolitan services at either Footscray or Southern Cross to access North Melbourne.

To plan your journey visit the Public Transport Victoria website.

Capacity and reliability

Did you know?

The project will create capacity for an extra 23 metropolitan and 10 regional services during each morning and evening peak period, capacity for an additional 54,000 passenger trips each day.
